Troy Buhr Ford Electrified Powertrain Troy Buhr, Team Captain for the ASU SAE Formula 1 car, worked in Michigan at Ford's Electrified Powertrain Engineering department. Troy will present what he learned from his great opportunity.
Stan Settles will present on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Settles worked at Garrett and currently is Professor of Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. He started drag racing in 1961 and his youngest brother won NHRA Top fuel in the 1970’s. The salt surface at Bonneville has about the same friction as damp concrete, and competitors there have the choice of many classes and types of cars, engines and fuels, and must adhere to very strict safety rules. During a 7 day long speed week he hit his first run of 138 MPH and 181 MPH, on August 13, 2007. On August 14th he hit the 200 MPH goal. The next day he picked up glass in a rear tire at 206 MPH and the car spun.
