Coffee Talk:
ASU Aero Design team “SunDevil Heavy Lift” will present their 2017 entry to the Aero Design West competition to be held in Ft. Worth, TX, March 10-12, 2017. The goal is autonomous flight with a "purpose" decided every year by rules committee members. Micro Class teams are required to make trades between two potentially conflicting requirements, carrying the highest payload fraction possible, while simultaneously pursuing the lowest empty weight possible.

Main Presentation:

EcoCAR 3 team will present their project for the EcoCAR 3 challenge put on by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and General Motors. Sixteen North American universities were selected to redesign a Chevrolet Camaro into a hybrid-electric car that will reduce environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car.

Arizona State University (ASU) was one of the lucky universities selected to participate in this premier collegiate automotive engineering competition. During the four-year program (2014-2018), ASU’s EcoCAR 3 team will follow the EcoCAR Vehicle Development Process (EVDP), which aligns with General Motors’ vehicle development process, and establish a plan for research and development, analysis, and validation of the EcoCAR 3 vehicle design.

They have been challenged to make innovations in many vehicle technology areas, including: Energy Storage System design and integration; hardware and software-in-the-loop testing; center stack development; powertrain component bench testing; use of vehicle modeling and simulation tools; and improving aerodynamics.
